Tao is from Qingdao, Shandong, China. He attended Humen Centre Primary School, one of the most prestigious primary schools in Qingdao, and Qingdao Middle School. Tao is a martial artist, and has been practicing Wushu since he was five years old. He competed in several martial arts championships in Qingdao, and won the "Top Rap Award" at Beijing 3rd Annual Collage Street Jam. [citation needed] In 2010, Tao appeared as an extra in the ninth episode of the mainland Chinese idol drama, That Love Comes.
Tao auditioned for S.M. Entertainment's global casting system in Qingdao and became an S.M. Entertainment trainee in late 2010. He was one of the last Exo members to join S.M. Entertainment and had a training period of less than one year. On December 27, 2011, Tao was formally introduced to the public as the third member of Exo. Along with Lu Han, Chen, and Exo-K's Kai, Tao made his first televised performance on SBS's Gayo Daejun event on December 29, 2011.
He officially joined SM Entertainment in 2010 after winning 1st place in an SM Entertainment Global Audition held in Qingdao, China.
He was officially introduced as a member of EXO on December 27th 2011.
During his time as a trainee, he was picked on by other trainees because he was Chinese and because he got to debut so quickly after joining SM Entertainment.
Tao’s first TV appearance was on SBS’s Gayo Daejun on December 29th, 2011. He appeared alongside Kai, Luhan, and Chen.
His favorite animal is a black cat.
He’s very conservative (kept to himself and mysterious).
In China, his roommate is Xiumin. In Korea, his roommate is his manager (his manager thought it’d be best because Tao still needs to work on his Korean), and on the road he rooms up with Kris.
He won first place in many Wushu and rap competitions.
His ideal type is someone who is pretty, has a great personality, and has a good body.
He knows how to speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and Korean.
Sometimes during interviews, his mood sulks because he isn’t able to speak Korean fluently like the other members.
According to fans, Huang Zitao accidentally “liked” a fanfiction (T/N: The chinese phrase used means they are paired together in the fic) about EXO-K’s member Oh Sehun and him, and got teased by fans, hence he changed his profile, to show his gloominess: “ Don’t want to explain anything anymore, don’t know anything. Can only say that weibo is a “pit”.
Regarding Huang Zitao’s rant, fans on one side are consoling him: “Don’t mind us, everyone is just playing around”, but on the other side did not forget to tease him: “Taozi is too Tsundere.” What will Huang Zitao think after he knows about this, But this is also a way that fans are showing their love for Huang Zitao, hope he doesn’t mind.
